These are the installed-price ranges we see on real Long Island jobs. Your number depends on the house, but these ranges are a fair starting point.
Typical Installed Costs
| System | Typical Long Island range |
|---|---|
| Central AC replacement (existing ductwork) | $7,000–$17,000 |
| Ductless mini-split system (depends on zones) | $14,000–$28,000+ |
| Full system with new ductwork, or heat pump conversion | $14,000–$25,000 |
Boiler and furnace replacements depend heavily on venting, piping and fuel type, so they’re best priced after a walkthrough.
Extra Costs to Plan For
- Electrical work – a new circuit, or a panel upgrade in older homes
- Ductwork repair, sealing or replacement
- Chimney liner or new venting for gas equipment
- Oil tank decommissioning or removal
- Condensate pumps and drain work for basement or attic equipment
- Local permits
What’s Different in 2026
- No federal tax credit. The federal 25C credit for heat pumps and efficient AC/furnaces ended after December 31, 2025 – details in federal HVAC tax credits in 2026
- Utility rebates still apply. PSEG Long Island rebates on qualifying heat pumps are now the main incentive – see PSEG Long Island heat pump rebates
- New refrigerants. New central AC and heat pump systems use lower-impact refrigerants such as R-454B or R-32 under EPA rules that took effect in 2025
How to Compare Quotes
- Ask whether the system was sized with a Manual J load calculation
- Compare exact model numbers and SEER2 / HSPF2 ratings, not just brand names
- Check what is included: electrical, permits, ductwork, removal of old equipment
- Compare labor warranties as well as the manufacturer warranty
- Get the quote in writing, itemized
