Boiler Repair & Steam Heat in Hicksville, NY
Steam radiators and hot-water baseboard are still the heat in a lot of Hicksville homes. We service them, fix them, and tell you honestly when it’s time to replace.

Steam vs hot waterCommon problemsReplacementFAQ
Pre-1970 Capes, splits and colonials in Hicksville often still run the boiler they were built with – or its replacement on the same piping. Those systems can heat very well for a long time, but they need someone who understands how they’re supposed to work.
Steam vs. Hot-Water Boilers
Steam
Boils water and pushes steam to radiators. One-pipe systems rely on air vents and proper pipe pitch to work quietly.
Hot water (hydronic)
Pumps heated water through baseboard or radiators, often split into zones controlled by zone valves or circulators.
Common Boiler Problems We Fix
- Banging or hammering pipes on steam systems – usually pitch, water level or clogged returns
- Radiators that stay cold – failed air vents, trapped air or a stuck zone valve
- Low-water cutoff and water-feed issues
- Relief valve dripping or pressure that keeps rising – often a failed expansion tank
- Circulator pumps and zone relay panels, including original Taco controls that can be upgraded without replacing the boiler
- Burner, ignition and flue problems on gas and oil boilers
Repair or Replace?
A leaking cast-iron section or a cracked heat exchanger usually means replacement. Otherwise, a boiler that’s maintained can keep running, and targeted repairs are often the better value. If you’re on oil and gas is available on your street, replacement time is also the natural point to consider an oil-to-gas conversion.
New boilers are sized from the home’s actual heat loss – and for steam, from the connected radiation – not from the nameplate on the old one.
Boiler FAQ
How often should a boiler be serviced?
Once a year, ideally before the heating season. Oil-fired boilers especially need an annual cleaning and tune-up to run efficiently.
Can I switch from steam to hot water?
It’s possible but it’s a major project – steam radiators and piping aren’t always suitable for hot water. Most homeowners are better served by a properly sized, well-tuned steam boiler, and we’ll explain the tradeoffs if you’re considering it.
Is a high-efficiency condensing boiler worth it?
Condensing boilers are for hot-water systems, not steam. They pay off best when the system can run at lower water temperatures. We’ll tell you whether your baseboard or radiators are a good match.
