Pricing & Quotes
What’s the average price of a service call?
It depends on the job – a diagnostic visit is different from a full install. We always confirm pricing with you before any work starts, so there’s never a surprise on the bill.
How do you price a new system?
We walk the house, check the existing equipment, ductwork, electrical service and venting, run a Manual J load calculation, and give you a written, itemized quote. See HVAC installation cost in Hicksville for typical ranges.
Is it worth repairing my old system?
A quick check is the $5,000 rule: multiply the system’s age by the repair cost. Over $5,000, lean toward replacing – but safety issues, warranties and boiler condition can change the answer.
Heating & Boilers
Do you work on older Hicksville homes with steam heat?
Yes – a lot of our calls are steam radiators and old baseboard systems in Hicksville’s Cape Cods and colonials. We know how to service them and how to tell you honestly when it’s time to consider a conversion instead.
Should I repair or replace my boiler?
It depends on the boiler’s condition more than its age. A cracked heat exchanger or leaking section usually means replacement; otherwise a well-maintained boiler can keep running. See boilers & steam heat.
What should I do if I smell gas?
Leave the house right away without switching anything on or off, then call 911 or National Grid’s gas emergency line from outside. Don’t go back in until the utility says it’s safe.
Cooling & Ductless
My old AC uses R-22 refrigerant. Can it still be recharged?
R-22 hasn’t been produced in the U.S. since 2020, so only reclaimed supply is left and it’s expensive. A leaking R-22 system usually isn’t worth repeated recharges – we’ll price both options.
Can I get a ductless mini-split if my house has no ductwork?
Yes – many Hicksville homes, especially older Capes, were never built with ductwork. Ductless mini-splits are one of our most common installs for exactly this reason. See ductless mini-splits.
Heat Pumps, Rebates & Tax Credits
Do heat pumps work in Long Island winters?
Cold-climate models are rated to keep producing heat in single-digit temperatures. Many homeowners keep their boiler as backup for the coldest stretches.
Is there still a federal tax credit for heat pumps?
No. The federal 25C credit ended for equipment installed after December 31, 2025. See federal HVAC tax credits in 2026.
Are there rebates for heat pumps on Long Island?
Yes – PSEG Long Island offers rebates on qualifying heat pumps, with extra help for income-eligible households. See how the rebate program works.
