Common problemsBefore you callHow we diagnoseRepair or replaceFAQ
Most AC breakdowns in Hicksville trace back to a handful of causes – a failed electrical part, a refrigerant leak, restricted airflow or a clogged drain. The fix depends on which one it is, so we test before we replace anything.
Common AC Problems We Fix
Blowing warm air
Often a failed capacitor or contactor, a refrigerant leak, or a dirty outdoor coil.
Outdoor unit won’t start
Capacitor, contactor, a tripped breaker or the outdoor disconnect.
Frozen coil or refrigerant line
Usually low airflow – a dirty filter or blower problem – or low refrigerant.
Water leaking indoors
A clogged condensate drain, float switch or cracked drain pan.
Turning on and off constantly
Short cycling from an oversized system, thermostat issues or low charge.
New noises
Fan motor bearings, loose panels, debris in the condenser, or compressor trouble.
Quick Checks Before You Call
- Make sure the thermostat is set to cool and below the room temperature, and replace its batteries if it has them
- Replace a dirty air filter
- Check the breaker in your panel and the disconnect switch next to the outdoor unit
- Clear leaves and debris from around the outdoor unit
- If you see ice on the lines, turn cooling off and run the fan only to thaw it – running a frozen system can damage the compressor
Don’t open the outdoor unit’s electrical panel – capacitors hold a charge even with the power off.
How We Diagnose an AC
We check the electrical components, refrigerant pressures, airflow across the indoor coil and the condensate drain, then explain what we found and give you a written price for the repair before any work starts.
Repair or Replace?
If the system is older, try the $5,000 rule: multiply its age by the repair cost. Systems that still use R-22 refrigerant are usually poor candidates for leak repairs because R-22 hasn’t been produced in the U.S. since 2020. If replacement makes more sense, see AC installation.
AC Repair FAQ
Why is my AC running but not cooling the house?
The most common causes are a dirty filter or frozen coil, a failed capacitor that keeps the outdoor fan or compressor from running, or a refrigerant leak. Check the filter and breaker first; if that doesn’t fix it, call us.
How much does AC repair cost?
It depends on the part and the cause. Electrical parts like capacitors are among the less expensive repairs; refrigerant leaks and compressor problems cost more. We give you a written price before any work starts.
Do you offer same-day AC repair?
Yes – same-day appointments are available, and we take emergency calls 24/7.
