ServicesWarning signsHumidityCostFAQ

Long Island summers are humid as much as they are hot, and a lot of Hicksville’s central air was added decades after the house was built – ducts run through tight attics, undersized returns, and condensers that were sized by guesswork. We diagnose the whole system, not just the part that stopped. See AC repair and AC installation for details.

Signs Your AC Needs Service

  • Air from the vents feels barely cool, or some rooms never cool down
  • Ice on the refrigerant lines or indoor coil
  • Water around the air handler or a full condensate pan
  • The outdoor unit hums but the fan doesn’t spin
  • The system runs constantly, or cycles on and off every few minutes
  • The house feels cool but clammy

Humidity Is Half the Job

An air conditioner that’s too big cools the air fast and shuts off before it has pulled moisture out, which leaves the house cold and damp. Finished basements add to it, and basement humidity often gets blamed on the AC when it’s really a ventilation or dehumidification problem. Right-sizing the system – and dealing with the basement separately when needed – fixes more comfort complaints than a bigger unit ever will.

What AC Work Costs

JobTypical Long Island range
Central AC replacement (existing ductwork)$7,000–$17,000
Ductless mini-split system (depends on zones)$14,000–$28,000+
Full system with new ductwork, or heat pump conversion$14,000–$25,000

Exact pricing depends on equipment, the condition of your ductwork, and electrical work – see what drives installation cost. You get a firm number after a walkthrough, not a phone guess.

AC FAQ

My old AC uses R-22 refrigerant. Can it still be recharged?

R-22 hasn’t been produced in the U.S. since 2020, so only recovered and reclaimed supply is left and it’s expensive. A small top-off can still make sense, but a leaking R-22 system usually isn’t worth repeated recharges – we’ll price both options.

Should I replace my AC and furnace at the same time?

Not always. If the furnace or air handler is fairly new and in good shape, replacing only the outdoor unit and coil can work, as long as the parts are properly matched. If both are near the end of their life, replacing them together is usually more efficient and avoids a second install.

Why is my AC running but the house still feels humid?

The most common causes are an oversized system that short-cycles, a fan left in the always-on setting, low airflow, or moisture coming from a basement. We check all four before recommending equipment.
